Boston Bruins assistant GM reportedly abandons the team to join a conference rival

Tonight a report from NHL insider Jeff Marek has revealed that Boston Bruins assistant GM Evan Gold has left the team and will likely join a conference rival.
The Boston Bruins overperformed this past season making the Stanley Cup Playoffs in a year everyone expected them to struggle.
As a result of their success, several players and now front office members have moved on to bigger opportunities after proving their worth in smaller roles with the Bruins.
One of those individuals is now former assistant GM Evan Gold who recently stepped away from the team to pursue other opportunities.
Gold interviewed for several General Manager positions including with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks but ultimately struck out.
Now, according to multiple reports, it seems highly likely that Gold will be staying in the Eastern Conference and joining the New York Islanders next season.

According to a report from Jeff Marek, the Islanders are expected to hire Gold in the coming days.
Nothing's done obviously, but Evan Gold has stepped away from the Bruins to pursue other opportunities, I do believe amongst others that he is going to end up with the Islanders - Jeff Marek
This confirms an earlier report from Mark Divver of the New England Hockey Journal who had the scoop earlier this week.
With Gold out, the Bruins have hired former Sabres GM Kevyn Adams and others to fill the void left by Gold.
As next season gets underway, it will be interesting to see if Gold will regret his decision to abandon the Bruins in favor of Long Island.
