The NHL season is set to kick off on Tuesday, and ahead of that, the Anaheim Ducks waived an expensive goaltender ahead of their season opener.

The Anaheim Ducks have been going through a big time rebuild, but after making some nice acquisitions this off-season, many believe they can take a major step forward during the 2025/26 campaign.
One of their biggest strengths coming into this year is their goaltending led by rising star Lukas Dostal, and with Petr Mrazek as a backup, they've got two very capable netminders as they look to get back into contention for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
On Tuesday however, the team officially waived their third goaltender, with the intention of having veteran Ville Husso sent back to the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League.

Husso and Other Veteran NHLers Placed on Waivers

He wasn't the only veteran goaltender waived however, as veteran Alexander Georgiev also found his way onto waivers from the Buffalo Sabres, along with some other veterans.
Forwards:
Juha Jaaska (Hurricanes)
Kevin Rooney (Mammoth)

Defensemen:
Jeremy Davies (Golden Knights)

Goalies:
Ville Husso (Ducks)
Alexander Georgiev (Sabres)
With most teams starting their season in the next two days, waivers has calmed down with teams solidifying their rosters ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, but if any teams out there need veteran goaltending, now could be the time to put in a claim.
Given what both veteran goaltenders are getting paid however, it's highly unlikely that any team out there will be looking to pick them up, but with teams now needing to make moves to put the best possible team on the ice, anything can happen as the NHL season is officially upon us.
