In addition to struggling on the ice, Team Italy was without Cristiano DiGiacinto after his illegal hit to the head of Martin Fehervary; he was forced to miss their embarrassing loss to Finland.
The host country of the 2026 Olympics hasn't fared very well so far in ice hockey, as the men's team is now 0-3 after today's embarrassing 11-0 loss to Team Finland.
Italy was also shorthanded for the game, as they didn't have Cristiano DiGiacinto available to them because of an illegal hit to the head he delivered to Martin Fehervary of Slovakia.
The news was reported by NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman.

Italy Wants To Show They Can Hang With The Big Boys In Ice Hockey
Italy has been considered a major underdog for their games, but that's not stopping them from having belief in themselves in the words of forward Luca Frigo.
We want to show the world that we can actually play hockey, because some people don’t believe in us. We want to show that we actually can, and I think we showed pretty well. - Luca Frigo
Even though their embarrassing loss was a shot to their pride, they must continue forward.
That stings for us from a pride perspective and in the standings, but Coach told us before the tournament started that the fourth game is the most important one and we have to grow as a group in the first three games to play our best hockey in the fourth game. - Dylan Di Perna
