‘It’s not about me’: Auston Matthews meets the media ahead of quarterfinals action

Through group stage action, the United States went 3-0 to punch their ticket automatically to the 2026 Olympic Games quarter finals, and now, they await their opponent, with Sweden and Latvia set to battle for the opportunity.

While they haven't been perfect, this is a team that couldn't be happier with their start to the tournament, and although other teams have been rolling too, the optimism is building in the US camp.

That confidence radiates through team captain Auston Matthews as well, and while he states that he personally is feeling good after a successful start to the tournament, he continues to share the love, stating that it's not about him, but all about the team early on in the tournament.

Sure, having a former No. 1 pick on the team helps (Canada would know, having four of them), and while this team needs Matthews as their leader, as of right now, they'll only go as far as their depth will take them.

Through three games, that depth has showed up well, with the team outscoring their opponents 16-5, and while they weren't as dominant as other teams, given the star power they've got all over their roster, it's easy to see where the optimism comes from.

Now, the United States await the winner of Sweden vs. Latvia, set to take place on Tuesday, and if No. 34 and the team can bring their best to that quarterfinals action, there's no reason why they can't be a genuine gold medal threat this year.
