Sidney Crosby was unavailable for the gold medal matchup for Canada, and now, Brad Marchand has revealed how the team let down their captain.
The 2026 Olympics saw the return of NHL players for the first time in 12 years, and unsurprisingly, the quality of play throughout the tournament was incredible, with international hockey once again taking off on the big stage.
At the end of it, it all came down to Canada and the USA, and while it was the United States coming away with the win, the Canadian team were without their star captain Sidney Crosby, who was disappointed he was unable to compete at a high enough level to play.
Brad Marchand opens up on letting down Captain Canada
Not only did Team Canada feel like they let down a country when they fell in 3-on-3 overtime, but they felt as though they let down their captain, with Brad Marchand opening up on how it felt to bring home silver in the absence of 87.
You feel bad letting a guy like that down. One of the best ever to play. One of the best leaders to ever play the game. Wish we could have got it done for him.
It wasn't for a lack of trying however, as Canada outshot the United States significantly, but with Connor Hellebuyck putting on a breathtaking performance in net, it just wasn't enough for Canada to get the job done.
Ultimately, Crosby has expressed his desire to play in 2030 as a send off to his hockey career, but with some like Marchand potentially playing in their last games, it's easy to see why they'd be disappointed on many levels for just taking home a silver medal.
