The San Jose Sharks have reportedly dangled a trio of prospects in their pursuit of Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson.

According to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now, Keaton Verhoeff, Igor Chernyshov, and Filip Bystedt were the names put forward in trade discussions.
Edvinsson is 23, is a pending restricted free agent and, per Elliotte Friedman, would prefer to be moved.
That has made him one of the league's most watched trade targets, with interim general manager Shawn Horcoff reportedly seeking young centers in return.

Who Are the Three Prospects?

Bystedt is the only center in the group, which matters given Detroit's reported wish list. He was recently called up to the NHL during a run of Sharks injuries, giving him a chance to boost his value in front of everyone.
Chernyshov is a winger and is currently week-to-week with an injury. Verhoeff is a defenseman, so he would not address the center need either.

Why Detroit Has Not Pulled the Trigger

Peng's source suggested that mismatch is likely why Detroit has not agreed to a deal. Chernyshov and Verhoeff carry real value for San Jose, yet neither plays the position Detroit reportedly covets.
Speculation elsewhere has pointed to Michael Misa, the Sharks' second overall pick in 2025, as the type of young center Detroit would want.
The two clubs have talked at length, according to Friedman, and Pierre LeBrun reported that San Jose is among at least 10 teams interested in the Swedish defenseman. With so many suitors, the Sharks may need to sweeten any package if they want to win the race.
Edvinsson appeared in 72 games for Detroit last season, and his contract situation adds urgency for everyone involved.
A restricted free agent who wants out can quickly lose trade value if the standoff drags on, which gives both sides a reason to find common ground soon.
For now, the Sharks have reportedly shown they are willing to part with real prospects. Whether Detroit wants one of the three, or something bigger, will shape the next chapter of this saga.
