A new proposal links Kirill Marchenko and the Oilers, sending Isaac Howard and a 2028 first to Columbus in return.

Trade speculation involving Kirill Marchenko is picking up steam, and this time the Edmonton Oilers are the team getting attached to the Columbus winger.
A proposal making the rounds on X has Marchenko and prospect Corson Ceulemans heading to Edmonton, with Columbus getting a package built around futures and roster help in return.
Marchenko has been one of the more underrated scorers in the league since breaking out with the Blue Jackets, and it is easy to see why Oilers fans would want him lined up next to Connor McDavid or Leon Draisaitl.
He carries a cap hit right around $3.9 million and is signed through the 2026-27 season, which would give Edmonton a controllable, affordable scoring option for the next couple of years.

What the Oilers would be giving up

The proposed return sends forward Isaac Howard, defenseman Ty Emberson, prospect Beau Akey and a 2028 first round pick to Columbus.
That is a real price. Howard was a Hobey Baker winner who Edmonton pried away from Tampa Bay last summer, and Emberson has quietly become a reliable piece on the back end since signing his extension.
That is a lot of young, controllable talent walking out the door for a team that already leans on prospects to fill its cheap roster spots around a heavy top end payroll.

Why this idea is worth watching

Columbus is not exactly rushing to move a 26 year old who just posted another strong season, and giving up two prospects with NHL upside plus a first for one player is a steep ask even for a star winger.
Still, the framework shows how badly some fans think Edmonton needs another scoring punch.
Whether Don Waddell has any interest remains the real question, and there is nothing suggesting actual talks are underway.
