The Buffalo Sabres, who have been among the NHL's best teams since December, have acquired New York Rangers forward Sam Carrick after losing out on St. Louis Blues defenseman Colton Parayko earlier in the day.

It's been a rotten year for the New York Rangers, who are expected to shed multiple pieces by tomorrow's trade deadline.
They've already traded star forward Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings, and there could be several more players going out the door.
On the other hand, since December, the Buffalo Sabres have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL and they've already reached the 80-point threshold with a win tonight over the Pittsburgh Penguins, equaling their total from last year in 20 fewer games.
The Sabres have now taken advantage of the Rangers by acquiring forward Sam Carrick per a report from NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman:
Carrick has 10 points (4G, 6A) in 61 games with the Rangers this year. He has another year left on his contract beyond this one with an AAV (average annual value) of $1 million.
Carrick, who was taken with the 144th overall pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, has 83 points (38G, 45A) in 380 career NHL games with the Leafs, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers and Rangers.

The Sabres Missed Out On Acquiring Colton Parayko From The St. Louis Blues Earlier Today

It looked like the Sabres were going to acquire defenseman Colton Parayko from the struggling St. Louis Blues, another team that is expected to trade away multiple players.
But Parayko confirmed that he was not willing to waive his no-trade clause to join the Sabres, nixing what would have been a major boost for Buffalo's defense.
Parayko reportedly wants to stay in the Western Conference and would like to go to either the Los Angeles Kings or Anaheim Ducks, per the latest reports.
