Tonight, a new report has suggested that two teams have emerged as front runners to potentially sign Anaheim Ducks defenseman Pavel Mintyukov to an offer sheet.
The NHL offseason is off to a wild start with multiple young stars being signed to offer sheets this week potentially shifting things around the league in a major way.
The Anaheim Ducks were at the center of the most shocking move as superstar center Leo Carlsson signed an offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Now, with Carlsson's future already hanging in the balance, the Ducks are at risk of losing fellow young star Pavel Mintyukov as well.
Several reports have indicated teams are exploring a potential offer sheet with Mintyukov but now two teams in particular have been connected to the Russian defenseman.
Two teams reportedly expected to offer sheet Pavel Mintyukov
According to a report from The Fourth Period, the Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens are two teams considering a big time offer sheet.
Mintyukov, 22, is also in need of a new contract and teams have approached his camp about his availability, with the Carolina Hurricanes and Montreal Canadiens among the clubs rumoured to have interest.
If the Anaheim Ducks do match the offer sheet for Leo Carlsson, then there is almost no way they can match another involving Mintyukov.
So if Carlsson is matched expect Mintyukov to be finding a new home in short order with a signed offer sheet.
However, if the Ducks lose Carlsson to Philadelphia then matching Mintyukov's offer likely becomes a much higher priority for Anaheim.
As the offseason plays out, the situation in Anaheim will take center stage to see what tricks GM Pat Verbeek has up his sleeve to keep his core group together.
