This afternoon, a new report has suggested that the Toronto Maple Leafs are exploring a potential deal for superstar defenseman Erik Karlsson this summer.
The Toronto Maple Leafs missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in a decade last season leading to a major overhaul of the front office and roster.
New GM John Chayka has yet to put a major stamp on the Maple Leafs roster to this point but that could be changing in the coming weeks as Toronto has now been linked to Erik Karlsson.

Erik Karlsson is entering the final season of his contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins and is reportedly unlikely to extend with the team.
This makes a trade much more likely for Karlsson and the Penguins and now Jimmy Murphy of RG Media has suggested the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators are most likely to land Karlsson if he is indeed traded.
IMHO, Erik Karlsson to the #GoSensGo or #LeafsForever before the 2026-27 season starts.
Karlsson, 36, is nearing the end of his career and likely wants to play for a contender meaning the Maple Leafs would need to rebound and have a good season to make them an attractive target for the future Hall of Famer.
While a trade as of now is not guaranteed, Karlsson's future seems to not be in Pittsburgh and a return back to Canada could be the most likely outcome.
As the season gets underway, all eyes will be on the Penguins and if they struggle to begin the year Karlsson could be on the move.
