The ECHL is a key part of hockey in North America, but now, a strike may be on the way as a growing labour dispute threatens to derail their season.

The NHL, AHL and ECHL are all important parts of hockey in North America, and while things have gone smoothly for the top two levels, things are seemingly heating up with the ECHL.
This season, the league and the Players Association have gone ahead despite no new Collective Bargaining Agreement in place, with both parties agreeing to play under the terms of the one that expired following the 2024/25 season.
Unfortunately, getting a new one done is proving harder than initially expected, with the PHPA penning a letter on social media outlining many of their demands for a potential CBA.

ECHL players threatening to go on strike

Now, over a month after posting that, it appears things are growing more tense, as a report from social media has now revealed that players are potentially on the verge of going on strike.
This is a move that could effect not only the ECHL, but the NHL as well, as many of the teams in the league are affiliated with the NHL and have become key parts of development for many of those organizations.
It's unclear as of right now how close things are, but if the players are talking strike, that means things aren't looking good, and with the two parties clearly not very close to getting a new CBA done, this could result in some major changes and potential cancellations of the 2025/26 season ahead in the ECHL.
