Oilers likely have trade planned for one specific goalie if Tristan Jarry is injured
The Oilers recently acquired Tristan Jarry, but after he went down with injury, they're eyeing a major backup plan if it ends up being a serious injury.
Following months of speculation, the Edmonton Oilers finally linked up with Tristan Jarry in a recent trade, with fans being incredibly excited over the future with a brand new, experienced goaltender in place.
Unfortunately, he suffered an injury in the Oilers latest game on Thursday, and now, this cloud will hang over the organization until they can confirm his status moving forward.
Oilers eyeing Buffalo Sabres veteran as potential backup plan
A long-term injury would be brutal for the Oilers, especially after giving up the assets they did to acquire Jarry, but now, according to Elliotte Friedman, the Oilers have a backup plan in mind if that situation eventually unfolds, which we should learn about in the coming days.
According to Friedman, the team did they due diligence on Buffalo Sabres goaltender Alex Lyon over the summer, and if Jarry is set to miss a significant chunk of the season, they may need to pony up more assets to land Lyon.
This season, the 33-year old has posted a 2.99 GAA and a .904 save percentage with the Sabres, and given that new General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen likely wants to clear up the logjam in net, this is a move the Oilers could consider making regardless.
For now, we will wait and see how things play out with Tristan Jarry, and regardless of whether he's out long-term or not, the Oilers could be in play for Lyon at some point ahead of the trade deadline.
