The Toronto Maple Leafs have been struggling thus far in 2025/26, and after their latest loss, Craig Berube has seemingly shifted all the blame onto his players.

Despite some changes to the roster, the 2025/26 season was yet another one full of expectations in Toronto, with many believing that this Maple Leafs team could once again thrive in the regular season.
However, they've struggled to string together consistency through the first two months of the season, as they currently sit in 14th place in the Eastern Conference with a 15-13-5 overall record.

Craig Berube blames this latest loss on the players

This comes just 18 months after the team brought in Stanley Cup winning Head Coach Craig Berube, a person many believed would be the answer for this organization.
Unfortunately, the team continue spiralling, and after their latest 4-0 loss at the hands of the Washington Capitals, he has seemingly thrown all of the blame onto those players on the ice.
They played with more passion than we did tonight. That's what it boils down to. It looked to me like they had way more urgency in their game, more passion in their game. That's the difference. - Craig Berube

When asked what the reason behind that was, Berube didn't care to elaborate, but instead told reports to go and ask the players.
Ask those guys, not me.
Clearly, this seems to be a coach that's starting to get incredibly frustrated, and with the Maple Leafs not having many assets to go out and improve this team, things could reach a boiling point soon.
Ultimately, this is on Berube, Brad Treliving and the players, and unless the organization can turn things around soon, there may be some type of big change coming in Toronto.
