Milan Lucic signs overseas, likely done in North America forever

Former Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic, who won the Stanley Cup with the club in 2011, could be finished playing professional hockey in North America.

Per a new report from NHL analyst David Pagnotta, Lucic will be signing a contract with a team in the UK's Elite Ice Hockey League.

Not only could it be Lucic's last chance to play this season, but it could also be his last chance at playing professional hockey.

Lucic signed a professional tryout agreement with the St. Louis Blues earlier in the year, but wasn't able to earn a roster spot and was returned to the AHL's Springfield Thunderbirds.

In the five games he played with the Thunderbirds, he had an assist but didn't get a single shot on goal. He was then released from his professional tryout with the Thunderbirds and became an unrestricted free agent.

Lucic attempted to revive his NHL career earlier his fall when he signed the PTO with the Blues. He was hoping to appear in an NHL regular season game for the first time since 2023, when he was in his second tenure with the Bruins.

Lucic was taken with the 50th overall pick by the Bruins in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, and he would help them win their first Stanley Cup in several decades by beating the Vancouver Canucks in 2011, regarded as one of the most thrilling SCF series in NHL history.

Lucic has since played for the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames.

He has 584 points (233G, 353A) in 1,177 games.
