Vancouver Canucks place young defenseman on waivers
Jett Woo was a second-round pick of the Canucks back in 2018, but after struggling to catch on in the NHL, the team have now placed him on waivers.
The Vancouver Canucks have made some solid draft picks in recent times, but unfortunately, not every pick pans out, no matter how much potential a young player can show.
That's something that fans are worried about when it comes to 2018 second-round pick Jett Woo, as the 25-year old is yet to appear in an NHL game despite four full seasons with the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks coming into 2025/26.
Vancouver place Jett Woo on waivers
Over the past three seasons in the AHL, Woo has tallied 70 points as a blue liner while also playing a key role in their Calder Cup run, and given his versatility, he's become one of the most exciting players in the Canucks system.
Woo underwent off-season surgery in 2025 however, and is yet to play a game this year, and now, with his potential return looming the team have made a huge decision on the 25-year old, officially placing him on waivers on Monday.
While he's yet to catch on in the NHL, the Canucks still believe in Woo, and would love for him to pass through waivers to get some more time in the AHL to get his legs back under him after an injury riddled off-season.
However, there's teams out there that may look at a 25-year old with plenty of upside as a potential option to claim on waivers, so now, we will wait and see how this plays out over the next 24 hours.
