Tonight, a new report from NHL insider Darren Dreger confirmed that multiple teams were in the offer sheet mix for Anaheim Ducks star Leo Carlsson.
Earlier today, the Philadelphia Flyers shocked the hockey world by signing Anaheim Ducks star center Leo Carlsson to an offer sheet.
The move was considered bold by the Flyers not only because offer sheets are rare but also because the Flyers offered Carlsson $18 million dollars per season.
The contract would make him the highest paid player in the NHL and the bonus structure of the deal would put immense strain on the Ducks if they match the deal.
Now a new report confirmed the Flyers outbid multiple other teams to secure the offer sheet from Carlsson.
Multiple teams reportedly tried to sign Leo Carlsson in free agency before Flyers deal
According to Dreger, Carlsson had four confirmed offer sheets for his services with other teams in the mix as well.
Dreger adds that Leo Carlsson had FOUR teams present offer sheets, with several others showing high-level interest.
It remains unclear which teams were the ones going all-in on Carlsson or what their offers were but clearly the Ducks were going to end up in this situation regardless.
Now, the Ducks have 7 days to decide how important Carlsson is to their team and if giving him that significant of a contract is worth the risk.
Carlsson is the center piece of their team now after a breakout season as the Ducks number one center.
He had elite two-way impact for the Ducks reaching a career high in points and providing good defensive metrics as well.
As more information is provided on Carlsson's future we will continue to update you on all of the latest news.
