Hall Of Fame Defensemen Set to Join ESPN Crew this Week
ESPN's hockey coverage may be criticized, but there's no doubting the star power of the crew, and now, they'll get a huge injection this week with Chris Pronger.
While many in Canada will be tuning into their hockey coverage on Sportsnet while America will favour TNT, ESPN has become a solid option for both as they look to improve their coverage of the sport during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The crew that cover the NHL on ESPN is often led by Steve Levy as well as former NHLers Mark Messier and PK Subban, but beginning in round two, it appears they'll have another Hall of Famer joining them.
According to reports, former St. Louis Blues, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger will be joining the crew, looking to bring his unique insight into a group that is in need of being freshened up in a big way.
With over 1,300 combined games at the NHL level under his belt, Pronger brings a wealth of experience, and most importantly, Stanley Cup winning experience to the ESPN broadcast, and now, we get our first look at him as he potentially looks to transition this into a full-time career.
After the announcement, Pronger took to social media to reveal his excitement for the opportunity to bring his unique insight to ESPN, with fans in the comments showing their great support for the beloved defenseman.
With so much different coverage of the NHL through Sportsnet, TNT, ESPN and local news coverage, fans will have their choice in how to watch moving forward, and if Pronger was someone you watched during his career, perhaps this latest move could bring in more viewers to ESPN for the remainder of the playoffs.
