The Montreal Canadiens recently hosted a team skills competition as a special event for their fans. One of the contests was the classic hardest shot competition.

Xhekaj Records 107 Mile Per Hour Shot In Skills Competition

During the contest, defenseman Arber Xhekaj, better known as the Sheriff, unleashed a howitzer of a shot, registering 107.7 miles per hour on the radar gun. Notably, the hardest shot ever recorded under any circumstances was 108.8.

The NHL record for hardest shot is 108.8 mph 😳

However, not everyone bought the result. One former NHL defenseman called out the competition as rigged when he saw the result.

Schwartz Calls Out Canadiens For Inaccurate Hardest Shot Contest

Jordan Schmaltz, who played in 42 career NHL games for the St. Louis Blues, called out the contest as soon as he saw the result. He thinks the team rigged it to hype up their players, comparing the contest to the 2001 home run derby.

Whether or not the radar gun was 100% accurate doesn't really matter though. This event was just for fun, with nothing on the line. A nice way for the team to have some fun with their fans in the midst of a tough season. Besides that, Xhekaj may be able to shoot that hard anyways.
