Multiple social media users immediately expressed their love of his post while sending him holiday greetings.
Cherry, who is now 91, recently wrapped up his Grapevine Podcast after over 300 episodes.
Don Cherry Was Infamously Fired In 2019 From Sportsnet After His Controversial Comments
Cherry, who has long caused controversy with his unabashed opinions, was let go from Sportsnet in 2019 after his controversial comments targeting those who didn't wear a ceremonial poppy pin to honour fallen Canadien solders.
I live in Mississauga [Ontario]. Very few people wear the poppy. Downtown Toronto, forget it. Nobody wears the poppy. ... Now you go to the small cities. You people ... that come here, whatever it is -- you love our way of life. You love our milk and honey. At least you can pay a couple bucks for a poppy or something like that. These guys paid for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada. These guys paid the biggest price for that. - Don Cherry
Many of his fans took his side and believed that he was not only unfairly fired but was also betrayed by MacLean, his longtime former co-host.
Cherry remains a polarizing figure in the hockey community, but it's clear that he still has his fair share of fans who would love to see him back on the air as he was for so many years.
