When you look at each Division leaders right now you have the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes in the East and Colorado Avalanche, and Calgary Flames in the West. All very good teams and all hoping to become champion at the end of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
But with all of this talent who's the favourite? Most years it's pretty clear who the favourites are and then you have a Cinderella run like the Montreal Canadiens last season led by Carey Price. However this year's playoffs odd makers aren't as sure who the true contenders are.
BetMGM Las Vegas shared what the odd makers in Vegas are betting on when it comes to this year's Stanley Cup playoffs, many have the Florida Panthers as the new favourites after grabbing Claude Giroux and Ben Chiarot at the trade deadline. However BetMGM disagrees and explain how the Avalanche are still in the lead, but also why the Carolina Hurricanes look like the best bet saying:
«Defense wins championships, and no team is as strong in their end as the Canes. Carolina has arguably the best defensive core in the league and Frederik Andersen has been great in net for them this season.»
-BetMgM Las Vegas BetMGM also put the Toronto Maple Leafs on the list, with some value at +1200 however with the uncertainty of if Jack Campbell and Petr Mrazek can deliver remains to be seen, not to mention the Leafs luck in the first round.
Clearly the fight remains between the Colorado Avalanche and the Florida Panthers who could meet eachother in finals.
BetMGM puts it like this:
The Panthers are the one team in the NHL that can go blow for blow with the Avs on offense. They don't have as many elite scorers, but the Cats hit you with a much deeper roster.»
Who do you think will win the Stanley Cup?
