The Pittsburgh Penguins are undoubtedly in a "win-now" mentality. With Crosby and Malkin nearing retirement, and a new GM at the helm looking to make his mark, there is no question that there is a sense of urgency for one last Cup in Pittsburgh.
Now, a recent rumour has surfaced that would confirm the Penguins' urgency to win, as they could be considering a trade that involves Rickard Rakell, a former 30-goal scorer with a $5 million cap hit. The rumour is that the Penguins could be looking to add a player with more of a net-front presence, and Rakell could be the perfect piece to move given his slow start. His skill is likely to still bring in a nice return for the Penguins in the short term.
If anything, Kyle Dubas has not been shy about his willingness to make a splash on his new team. He was involved in probably the biggest trade of the last few years, bringing in Erik Karlsson in a three-way deal just months after being named GM of the Penguins.
Now, he has an opportunity to bolster the lineup early on in the season. If he wants to optimize the roster in the short term for another cup with Crosby and Malkin, Rakell might be the move to make.
