For those of you who do not remember, the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins met in the 2011 Stanley Cup finals, where the Bruins won game 7 to take home the Stanley Cup.
It was a clash of skill vs grit, where the Bruins just beat up on the Canucks for 7 straight games.
The Canucks took both games 1 and 2 at home, and Chara recalls something that sparked the Bruins to absolutely dominate the Canucks for games 2 & 3 in Boston:
After losing two games in Vancouver, we saw players from Vancouver coming on the ice in the Garden, and they were actually practising how they would be lifting the Cup and handing off the Cup to each other, And we found out about these things and we were like fuck this, we are not going to allow this to happen.' It just fuelled us.
The Bruins would go on to win game 3, 8-1 and game 4, 4-0.
Apparently Chara also heard a rumour that Canucks players were making plans for their families to be in Boston for game 5 to see them hoist the cup:
«We heard about a few things. There were some rumours that they called the league and they were asking, I believe it was after I don't know what game it was they were calling the league and asking how many people or family members they can take on the ice after they win the championship, We found out about these things For us that was a huge huge motivation.»
