When the Chicago Blackhawks appointed Kyle Davidson as the new General Manager last season, he immediately took the team in a new direction and entered a rebuild.
Since then he has made some moves that had fans scratching their heads and has obviously upset some of their key leaders on the team like Patrick Kane.
He traded away 2 time 40 goal scorer Alex Debrincat, who was only 24 at the time. He let Dylan Strome and Dominik Kubalik walk for nothing even though they were RFA's, which both have found great success on their new teams. And at the 2022 draft, he traded away 2019 3rd overall pick Kirby Dach, who since leaving Chicago has blossomed into a great top 6 player in Montreal.
22 year old Kirby Dach has blown by his career highs that he set in Chicago, and now has 35 points in 53 games this season on a poor Montreal team.
Patrick Kane was asked about the success of these players who were let go by the organization, and he didn't hold back:
"I'm not surprised. What is he, 21? 22? It takes some time sometimes, and he was probably rushed into the league. And playing fourth-line minutes, getting sat out games, it's probably not the best thing for your development.
It's not surprising that all of a sudden he's starting to play a lot of minutes and playing in a good position and he's producing. Happy for him.
He's talked about Dach being rushed before, and he's said how Strome wasn't put in a position to succeed for much of his Hawks career.
It didn't make much sense to anyone when the Blackhawks traded away Dach. He was only 21 years old and hadn't even been given a chance to truly succeed yet. He was definitely a possible future first line center that the Hawks could have kept, that isn't exactly easy to find in the NHL.
