Joe Thornton is one of the greatest playmakers the National Hockey League has ever seen. Jumbo Joe stands at 6'4 and on multiple occasions put up 90+ assists and 100+ points.
Thornton currently ranks 12th all time in NHL history is points and 7th all time in assists, but despite these numbers, he was left off the NHL top 100 list a few seasons ago.
Jumbo Joe is still searching for his first stanley cup at the age of 43, and despite moving around to two contending teams these past 2 years, he is yet to find any playoff success.
It was rumoured going into this offseason that Thornton would be retiring, but with training camps beginning and the start of the season just a few weeks away, he has yet to announce if he will be retiring.
One thing we do know though, one team is interested in offering him a contract to come back to the NHL for atleast one more season.
Things are kind of up to him. I don't know if he wants to play or not play, when he figures that out, and his family figures that out, then I'm sure have a conversation with him at some point. -Sharks GM Mike Grier.
