When the Edmonton Oilers selected Jesse Puljujarvi with their 4th overall pick in 2016, it looked like he was going to be an absolute home run of a player. He was a big bodied player, had a great net drive, a knack for scoring goals, and he had just tore up the World Juniors scoring 5 goals and 17 points in 7 games for Team Finland en route to a Gold Medal.
Unfortunately though, he has not been able to make the transition to the NHL and be an elite player, despite getting to play with arguably the top 2 players in the game in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Through his first 308 games in the NHL, Puljujarvi only has 50 goals and 108 points. If he was supposed to be a bottom 6 player, this would actually be good, but with the expectations he came into the league with, management and fans were hoping for much more.
The Edmonton Oilers have been trying to trade their former 4th overall pick for awhile, and in the past it's been rumour that the asking price has been too high. Now it seems like it's been lowered and according to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli, several teams are interested.
Reports are now that the Oilers have a deal in place for Puljujarvi, but they are waiting to see the status of Kailer Yamamoto, who is currently on LTIR, before pulling the trigger on a trade:
The Oilers have a trade in place for F Jesse Puljujarvi, but are waiting to see what happens with F Kailer Yamamoto, as he remains on LTIR. Per, Frank Seravalli.
