Bruce Cassidy was recently let go by the Boston Bruins after having a winning record season after season. As soon as he was let go, there was a rumour that started going around that Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron may be behind the firing.
Bergeron is set to become a free agent, and the rumour was that he asked Don Sweeney to fire Cassidy or he would sign with another team come free agency.
Sweeney denied the rumour during a press conference and now Bergeron is denying it too.
It's completely unfounded, so I won't put any energy into it. It's a waste of time and it's really stupid speculation.
Bergeron also made a statement on how he would play if Cassidy was the coach next season or not.
I always played the same way, no matter the coach. I always had the same desire to want to help the team and give what the coach expects of me, even since minor hockey. It take pride to playing my role as my coaches want me to play it.
