Panthers Captain Aleksander Barkov Likely To Miss Time After Knee-On-Knee Hit
When the medical professionals chime on an injury, it's best to listen up, though in the case of Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov, you might not like what you hear.
Knee-on-knee sends Barkov out
On Friday night, Florida carried a 2-0 lead into the third period at Anaheim and in the first minute of the frame, Barkov carried the puck up ice.
As the Panthers center crossed center-ice, he tried to make a move to his right to get past Ducks defenseman Jackson LaCombe who stuck out his left leg, making contact and sending Barkov to the ice.
Reviewing the play online, Dr. Harjas Grewel, a respected medical professional who breaks down videos of NHL players injuries in an effort to diagnosis the issue, chimed in on X, formerly Twitter, with some bad news for Florida fans.
Barkov was noticeably protecting his left knee as he strained to skate off the ice hunched over alongside a team trainer. He would go to the locker room and did not return to the game.
This season, the Panthers' leader has 6 goals and 11 assists in 16 games.
