At the time of writing, the Washington Capitals are currently sitting 4th place in the Metropolitan division and holding onto the 2nd wildcard spot in the East.
They are 11 points up on the surging New York Islanders, with 1 more game played (69 Capitals, 68 Islanders). So baring any brutal breakdowns, the Capitals should be able to hang onto this wild card spot and make it into the playoffs.
