The Calgary Flames have gone two straight seasons without naming the successor to Mark Giordano, and after promising to name a captain this summer, it appears Calgary have found their man.
While the Flames roster has copped plenty of criticism in recent times, there were surprisingly a few candidates for the role, but ultimately, it looks like they're going with the obvious decision.
According to Eric Francis of Sportsnet, the Flames are preparing themselves to give the 'C' to Swedish defenseman Rasmus Andersson, who is still young but comes with plenty of experience in Calgary.
Despite all the rumours of a mass sale this summer, Calgary have stuck to their guns, and now, their roster appears to be one that's ready for a playoff run, especially if they can get behind their new captain.
In 377 games with Calgary since being a second round pick way back in 2016, Andersson has tallied 27 goals and 161 points, and if he continues the consistent play on both ends of the floor, he could be the captain for a long time to come in Calgary.
