From the moment Alexander Ovechkin entered the league in 2005, we knew he was something special scoring 2 goals in his first game. He would go on in his rookie season to score 52 goals, 106 points and beat out Sidney Crosby for the Calder Memorial trophy.
We all know Pierre McGuire has endless amounts of hockey knowledge. Back in 2013, Pierre was asked if he thinks Ovechkin is capable of ever scoring 50 goals in a season again, which he responded:
Well, since this comment was made, Ovechkin has now scored 5 more 50 goal seasons, one 49 goal season, and one 48 goal season which was ended due to COVID at 68 games.
At the age of 36, Ovechkin still continues to produce like he did in his 20's and being only 114 goals away from Gretzky's record, let's hope he keeps up this scoring pace!
