According to Chris Johnston Jason Spezza's hearing with Gary Bettman is being held this afternoons.
Jason Spezza is set to miss his 4th game tonight of his 6th game suspension. At this time it seems the appeal is just a formality as Spezza is set to serve his 6th game Sunday against the Seattle Kraken.
In today's hearing Spezza is set to appeal to Gary Bettman and if the suspension is upheld, which is expected then Spezza will be able to appeal to an independent arbitrator which will likely simply be a formality of Spezza proving the issues with NHL DOPS.
This entire process shows the flaws in the NHL system and why they should adopt the MLB system where any player appealing is allowed to play until the appeal is heard. This would also motivate the league to speed up this process unlike the current situation Spezza is in.
