Jack Campbell has had a very rocky season in 2023-24. Last night he hit another low point in his season that has called his career into question.
Campbell Shows Improvement During AHL Stint
Campbell's first couple of AHL starts were hard to watch. He was fighting himself and playing with low confidence. Then after a few games, he found a rhythm and was playing well enough that there were talks of a re-call being in the future.
The inconsistency was what had been keeping him down in the AHL for as long as he has been. Last night that inconsistency reared its ugly head again with an awful performance from Campbell.
Campbell Hits Rock Bottom In The AHL
In Campbell's most recent AHL start last night things went about as wrong as possible. Campbell surrendered 3 goals in just 28 minutes of game time.
Eventually, Campbell would give up a fourth goal and be pulled from the game.
This is a terrible sign for Campbell. If he cannot find consistency in winning in the AHL not only will his path to the NHL become harder he could lose his role in the AHL as well.
The Edmonton Oilers are on a roll lately. This likely means they will not chance things by calling up Jack Campbell. Therefore Campbell will likely either be stuck in the AHL in a backup role to
Olivier Rodrigue, on to a new organization, or sent down again this time to the ECHL.
