News broke that Sean Avery was going to be signing a contract with the Orlando Solar Bears. This is expected to be the first step in his plan to eventually return to the NHL. Whether that comes to pass will be seen in the coming weeks and months, but it sounds more and more like that road is going to get rockier for the one time NHLer.
It was immediately known that another former NHLer, in Matthew Barnaby was also seeking an ECHL contract for the sole purpose of fighting Avery, but now it suddenly doesn't seem like Barnaby is the only one who has Avery in his cross hairs.
Another former NHLer in Georges Laraque took to Twitter yesterday to share his desire to suit up for a game against Avery as well.
Laraque played a total of 695 games in his career and amassed 1126 career penalty minutes. Laraque hasn't played in the NHL since 2009-2010, when he suited up for the Montreal Canadiens.
Well Christmas may have come early for Laraque
It sounds as though the two parties are set to finalize details in a direct message exchange for an upcoming game in March.
