At the same time, some players on the Flames clearly do not want to be there anymore. One such player is defenseman Nikita Zadorov, who's trade request went public last week.
The 6'6" blueliner has a goal and five assists for Calgary this season. In total he's played 171 games for the Flames, putting up 19 goals and 49 points in that span. Teams rumored to be in on him include Toronto, Vancouver, and New Jersey.
This morning we heard a new team is linked to the Flames defensemen sale. The team is none other than the New York Islanders.
The Islanders are currently 7th in the Metro division with a 5-6-5 record and a -13 goal differential. It remains unclear at best if the team can compete for a playoff spot this year. Friedman did not indicate which defenders the team might be interested in as the Flames have reportedly been looking to trade multiple blueliners, not just Zadorov.
He did say though that the team is looking for a scorer. While none of Calgary's defenseman have stood out offensively this year, one player rumored to be on the move is Noah Hanifin, who has a history of producing points in the NHL. Hanifin has 52 goals and 264 points in 614 career games.
