According to Andrew Peters, the source who broke the Jack Eichel deal, is now sharing some very disappointing news if it's true. This morning Peters reported that the NHL is not interested in sending players to the Beijing and that it will be on the agenda for today's Board of Governors meetings.

If this proves to be true this will be the second consecutive Olympics NHLers did not partake in and would be extremely disappointing to fans. There have also been reports that some players are beginning to feel apprehensive about attending the Beijing Olympics. Players are worried about the mandatory three week quarantine period should they test positive for COVID while in China.

Last week Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner shared that he would not be attending the Olympics for Team Sweden as he felt it would be negative for his mental health. Lehner shared that this decision was made by himself, his family, and his therapist. Although only the first player to openly share this sentiment, there was a lot of support for his decision amongst other players.

The NHL and players had agreed to attend the Olympics in the most recent collective bargain agreement, but the NHL did build in a January opt out if games were missed for COVID. That opt-out was triggered when the Ottawa Senators postponing games due to Covid.

This situation is fluid and we will continue to bring the latest updates as they become available.

Update: The NHL provides a positive update this afternoon
