Despite reports that the NHL didn't want to attend the Beijing Olympics that leaked this morning it turns out that might not be the case.
Today at the NHL Board of Governors meeting the NHL Commissioner revealed the NHL's plans for the upcoming winter Olympics and for once it's positive news.
Bettman issued the following statement:
"In good faith, we made a promise to the players, and ultimately this is going to have to be a players' decision," Bettman said following a two-day NHL Board of Governors meeting.
It would be difficult to believe that the players as a whole would be willing to opt out of the Olympics but it sounds as if the NHL will simply allow players to make the choice at their own discretion.
The NHL did say they didn't have full details on the process should a player test positive in China and it does sound as if the NHL season will go on as scheduled regardless of if a player returns to a team on time.
