I feel like year after year we are writing the same exact thing. Another season, another first round loss for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and as usual, we are asking, what is next for the Maple Leafs?
The main subject each season is who is getting traded, who are they trading for, what are they missing. The usual suspect who are part of trade talks is surprisingly Mitch Marner, but usually its focused around William Nylander.
Nylander is signed to a very team friendly deal of $6,962,366 for 2 more seasons, and just had a career high in goals (34) points (80) in 81 games. With this production, you would think he would be highly sought after right? Wrong.
A former Montreal Canadiens goalie coach, now pundit, Stephane Waite, revealed that the Maple Leafs have been trying to trade Nylander for the past 2 years.
Our friends at Hockey Feed translated this from French on his latest podcast:
«As for Nylander, by the way, he's been on the market for two years! They haven't been able to get rid of him for two years. They will have to be very imaginative to succeed in getting rid of him!»
Nylander has been highly criticized for his lack of physicality and play along the boards, but a team who is in desperate need for scoring you would think would be all over a trade for William Nylander.
Do you think he will get traded this offseason?
