Former Ohio State goaltender Sean Romeo has died at 31 after complications from a stroke, and the hockey world is paying tribute.

The hockey community is mourning a goaltender who was taken far too soon. R
Romeo died on Saturday, October 24, nine days after suffering a stroke on October 15, according to Ohio State.
His mother later shared that a second stroke followed and the swelling in his brain kept getting worse.
The ECHL, where Romeo played parts of two seasons, shared its condolences on Monday night.
The Cincinnati Cyclones also paid tribute to their former netminder, saying they are holding his friends and family in their thoughts.

A standout at Ohio State

Romeo began his college career at Maine before transferring to Ohio State in 2016.
In 2017-18 he became the first Buckeye ever named a Mike Richter Award semifinalist and earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors.
His 22 wins that season are tied for the second most in a single year in program history, and he helped lead the Buckeyes to the Frozen Four.
In November 2018 he set a school record with a shutout streak of 204 minutes and 27 seconds.
He was just as impressive away from the rink.
Romeo was a three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and graduated with a finance degree in the spring of 2019.

A final gift to others

Romeo was an organ donor, giving his heart, lungs, liver and kidneys so others could have a second chance at life.
His mother said she hopes the people who receive those gifts will someday understand just how special he was.
After college he suited up in 30 ECHL games across stops in Cincinnati, Florida, Adirondack, Norfolk, Kansas City, South Carolina and Indy before moving into a business career in Chicago.
A celebration of life is scheduled for November 9 at 11 a.m.
Our thoughts are with Sean's family, friends and teammates.
