The Colorado Avalanche are gearing up for another Cup run this year, as they sit near the top of the Western Conference standings. To do so, however, they will need to stay healthy.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case last night against the San Jose Sharks, as Andrew Cogliano received a scary hit from behind from Jack Studnicka.
Luckily for the Avalanche, Cogliano returned to the game after the scary hit, avoiding serious injury on the play.
The NHL has seen several scary hits from behind this year, which is concerning as the game gets faster and faster. NHL Player Safety has been inconsistent with its punishments for the hits, as well, creating uncertainty around what the League thinks is okay and what isn't.
Clearly, the NHL will have to take a stand on this type of play, and consistently enforce whatever punishment they deem to be deserved from the hit. Luckily for the Avalanche, this time it didn't end up with an injury.
