Struggled enough that the team looks like they are will to move on from franchise goaltender
John Gibson.
According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Ducks are willing to do the unthinkable to get a Gibson deal done. On a contract that still has 5 years remaining on it, the Anaheim Ducks are willing to retain salary, if it means getting a bigger return on the trade.
Gibson has 5 years remaining on a contract that has a cap hit of $6,400,000. While you'd think a team that wants to start competing soon would want to hang onto this all-star goaltender, Gibson's numbers have dropped significantly over the past few seasons. Last season Gibson had a 18-26-11 record with a 3.19 goal against average and .904 save percentage, which could be because of poor defence on the team, or it could be related to Gibson no longer wanting to be a Duck.
Gibson is turning 29 next month, and for a goaltender he is in the 'prime of his career' which not having made the playoffs since the 2017-18 season, could definitely be draining on him.
This franchise goaltender could definitely use a fresh start, and with a new team could return to form. With the Ducks willing to eat some of his salary, they should have teams lined up around the block with offers for him.
