Well, things have not gone so well for the Blackhawks this year, both on and off the ice. So much drama and disappointment has gone on in this organization this season, it's hard to think anyone would want to be part of it.
When new GM Kyle Davidson took over officially, he announced that the team would be entering a rebuild, which saw players like Fleury, Hagel & Carpenter get traded at the deadline for assets, and gives a lot of speculation as to whether Kane and Toews will be around after this upcoming offseason as they both stated they are not happy with a rebuild. Both players are on the wrong side of 30 and with a rebuild not being something that happens after one season, it would be a shame to see them stick around a losing organization, when they could be somewhere else competing for a cup.
Alex Debrincat is in a tough situation as he is still young enough that a rebuild should not take him out of his prime, but he is good enough now that he should be competing for stanley cups, not competing for last place. Debrincat still has one more year after this season at a cap hit of $6,400,000, but will remain an RFA. After scoring 40 goals and 76 points in 79 games this season, Debrincat will be looking for a huge raise on his current contract. At the age of 24, he gives his opinion when asked if he would resign with the Blackhawks.
Alex DeBrincat says he's open to negotiating a new contract this summer, but he understands Kyle Davidson probably has a lot of other things to get to first. Scott Powers (@ByScottPowers) April 25, 2022
Now the question I want to ask him is ... If the Blackhawks trade away Toews & Kane, would he still want to stick around Chicago?
