One of the NHL's player agency services has just been sold in a blockbuster deal worth nearly half a billion dollars.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli dropped some major news today, revealing that the player agency firm KO Sports, owned by agent Kurt Overhardt, is being purchased by competitor agency Wasserman.
Wasserman was already the 3rd largest player agency in the NHL with well over 100 players under contract with a total value of over 275 million dollars.
Notably, the agency also represents Connor McDavid, who is the largest NHL player contract the firm holds.
Coming into the merger, KO Sports was the 9th largest firm in the league with 44 players signed for just under 100 million dollars in contract value.
Ryan Johansen has the largest contract through the company with a total value of 64 million dollars.
Puckpedia revealed during the announcement that at least two of KO Sports' old agents, Kevin Magnuson and Cam Stewart, are going independent instead of joining Wasserman as part of the merge.
With the acquisition, Wasserman Sports now represents many more NHL stars including Jacob Slavin, Cole Perfetti, Mattias Ekholm, John Gibson, Victor Arvidsson, and many more.
With the Merger, Wasserman will remain the 3rd largest player agency in the NHL behind Newport Sports Management and CAA Sports LLC.
Famous Player Agent Allen Walsh works for Octagon Athlete Representation, the 4th largest firm in the league.
For most players, this merger won't really mean anything. But with fewer competitors in the industry we could potentially see higher agent fees and players have fewer options to go to.
That being said independent agents remain available such as the aforementioned Kevin Magnuson and Cam Stewart.
How this merger affects the landscape of the league will only be revealed in due time.
