Detroit Red Wings head coach Tod McLellan called out his team this morning during their current losing streak.

The Red Wings were right in the playoff race for most of the season, but unfortunately they have run out of gas at exactly the wrong time for the second year in a row.
The team has lost their last two games and is just 2-8-0 over their last ten, dropping to 6th place in the Atlantic Division.
The team is now five points behind the Montreal Canadiens for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference and the Rangers, Islanders, and Blue Jackets are all ahead of them in the standings as well.
This morning, head coach Tod McLellan called out his team, saying they need to be honest with themselves.
"We have to be honest with each other. We talk about wanting to be in the playoffs, but we're not sure we always want to be in shooting lanes. We're not sure we want to do some things. And I'm not saying everybody, we're just picking and choosing."

He clarified that most of the players on the team are doing the right things, going to the right spots, and putting in the work.
However, if even just a few players aren't putting in their best effort, that takes down the entire team as a whole.
"Do we really want to do it around the net? Do we really want to get hit by a puck? And do we want to do the board work when it's hard? If the answer is yes to that from everybody, then we have a chance. If the answer is yes to those questions from 85% of the players, we don't. And it's as simple as that. We gotta keep asking those questions and working on it."

Of course, Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman hasn't made things any easier for his club.
He made a huge blunder last summer when he traded Jake Walman to the San Jose Sharks, a move that has since come back to haunt him.
The Sharks would go on to trade Walman to the Edmonton Oilers for a 1st round pick. He has 6 goals and 36 points in 58 games this season.
Hopefully Yzerman won't make any more moves like that in the coming years as the team looks to finally get back into the playoffs.
