During a recent appearance on the ESPN panel, retired defenseman and NHL analyst targeted Detroit Red Wings' Justin Holl with a controversial and scathing comment.
At the very start of the month, the Detroit Red Wings seemed a viable candidate to appear in the Stanley Cup playoffs, standing in the Eastern Conference's second Wild Card spot, two points ahead of the Ottawa Senators.
Cut to three weeks later, they are sixth in the Wild Card race, sitting five points below the Montreal Canadiens, and following their recent 6-3 defeat to the Golden Knights, they have only won four of fourteen games since the 4 Nations break,
forcing them into emergency measures to keep their postseason hopes alive.
As a former Norris Trophy winner and no stranger to controversy, retired NHL defenseman PK Subban held no punches when calling out one player he thought was part of the team's recent failures.
During a recent appearance on the ESPN panel, Subban targeted Red Wings defenseman Justin Holl, calling his playing across Detroit and his prior team the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"Justin Holl has been soft since he's been in the league. He was soft in Toronto, soft still."
Despite playing 61 games, Holl has only tallied five points, made 62 blocks, and 29 hits, earning him a weak -7 plus/minus.
Though Subban tends to draw a lot of criticism for his on-air statements, many fans feel that he got this one right.
The Detroit Red Wings will face off against the Utah Hockey Club on Monday night, giving them another chance at gaining ground in the Wild Card race.
If Subban's critique of Holl plays out true, it could be far and beyond the beginning of the end for their playoff hopes.
