Colby Cave's widow speaks after five years of silence
Over five years have passed since former Edmonton Oilers forward Colby Cave tragically passed from a brain bleed, leaving his family and wife, Emily Cave Boit, heartbroken.
In a recent Yahoo interview, Emily revealed more about Colby's passing, explaining that it was caused by a rare, undetected tumor he was born with.
"Colby had been born with a rare tumor that was never detected," Emily shared. "On that day, the tumor shifted. The neurosurgeon told me that with how big it was, he wouldn't have lived long. Even if they operated, he said it probably wouldn't have done anything."
Emily also described the anguish she felt after Colby's death, constantly questioning if she missed any signs.
"I went through every little detail thinking, 'What did I miss?' It was torture and I went through that for so long."
COVID-19 regulations prevented Emily and Colby's family from visiting him in the hospital, forcing them to communicate via walkie-talkie. His funeral was delayed until May of the following year. Despite the tragedy, Colby's Oilers teammates encouraged Emily to start dating again, leading to her recent marriage.
Emily still holds a special place in her heart for Colby, commemorating their five-year wedding anniversary with a touching social media post:
"Happy Heavenly 5th Wedding Anniversary, Colb. You recently came to me in a dream, as well as sent me many signs. You knew I needed them. To hear your laugh again, it gives me chills to think about it."
