Fans brawled in the stands at Prudential Center while Jack Hughes and the Devils beat the Oilers 4-3 in a shootout on Tuesday night.
Some of the loudest noise at Prudential Center on Tuesday night had nothing to do with a goal.
Early in the first period, a fight broke out between fans in the stands, and the clip spread online in no time.
New York Post Sports shared the video, which shows spectators from several rows jumping in to pull the men apart while punches were still flying.
The post joked that the fans deserved five minute penalties, which is about the only way to laugh at a scene like this.
Devils edge Oilers in a shootout
On the ice, New Jersey beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in a shootout.
Jack Hughes scored twice and added an assist, Connor Hellebuyck stopped 19 shots in his first home start of the season, and Arseny Gritsyuk won it in the shootout.
Leon Draisaitl had tied the game at three early in the third period, so the Devils had to earn every bit of it.
The loss closed out a three-game road trip for Edmonton, which now sits at 11-2-3.
The Devils moved to 10-5-0 and looked right at home against one of the league's best teams.
What happens next with the fight
It's still unclear whether any of the fans involved were ejected.
No statement from the Devils or the arena had surfaced as of Wednesday morning, so this part of the story is still developing.
Hockey crowds get loud and rivalries get heated, but a fight in the seats can overshadow a great game fast.
This one had stars, goals and a shootout, and plenty of people online still can't stop talking about the brawl.
That is a rough look on a night the sport deserved better attention.
