After starting the draft off with a bang selecting Ivar Stenberg the San Jose Sharks finished the draft in a historic way setting an NHL record.
Every year the NHL Draft is one of the biggest events on the calendar where every team comes together and fans from across the hockey world are provided hope for the upcoming season.
This offseason, the San Jose Sharks came into the draft with the second overall pick after a season of major growth from their young core.
Early on they added to that core with Ivar Stenberg at 2nd overall one of the best all around forwards in the 2026 class.
Throughout the rest of the draft Sharks GM Mike Grier did a solid job adding talent until his last pick in the 7th round where he went for a home run swing drafting 7'1 defenseman Alexander Karmanov.
San Jose Sharks draft pick Alexander Karmanov sets an NHL record
With the gusty pick from Grier, Karmanov now becomes the tallest player ever drafted into the NHL in the history of the league.
Karmanov is seen as an extremely raw prospect with a lot of upside to be the most unique player in the entire National Hockey League but a low likelihood of hitting that ceiling.
He is set to play one more season with the North Bay Battalion of the OHL before taking his talents to the NCAA and playing for the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Hopefully, for both the Sharks and Karmanov, his development goes smoothly and he turns out to be a steal in the 7th round and becomes the tallest player to play an NHL game some day.
