NHL analyst Darren Dreger is revealing what the cost to acquire a veteran defenseman from the struggling Winnipeg Jets would be.
There is nothing going right for the Winnipeg Jets right now, who lost last night 4-3 to the Edmonton Oilers for what is now a franchise-worst 11 straight losses.
This goes back even to the days of their previous identity of the Atlanta Thrashers, and they've now slumped into the worst spot in the NHL. It's a complete contrast from their position last year, when they won the President's Trophy as the NHL's best team and advanced to the Western Conference Semifinal against the divisional foe Dallas Stars.
The Jets could soon begin selling off assets, and one of the more talked-about players in trade rumours is veteran defenseman Luke Schenn, who has reportedly expressed a desire to be moved.
Per a new report from NHL analyst Darren Dreger, Schenn could potentially be had for a lower-round draft pick, and even suggests the Toronto Maple Leafs as a potential destination.
Darren Dreger: I'm pretty sure if the Maple Leafs wanted to reunite Luke Schenn, they'd get him for a lower end draft pick; I think that Luke is looking for a better opportunity, bigger role - OverDrive (1/8)
Schenn began his career with the Maple Leafs, who took him with the fifth overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, and he also played briefly again in a Maple Leafs sweater in 2023.
The Jets Have Now Lost 11 Games In A Row, A Franchise Record
The Jets set a franchise record on Thursday night against the Edmonton Oilers, but not he kind of history that even the most conservative fans and analysts would have figured after winning the President's Trophy last year.
After losing 4-3, the Jets have now dropped 11 straight games, which is the most as a franchise, even dating back to the days of their original identity as the Atlanta Thrashers.
By all indications, barring a miracle, the Stanley Cup aspirations in Manitoba will have to wait for another year.
