Darren Dreger has given Jets fans a clear read on the Connor Hellebuyck market, and one team keeps surfacing.
Speaking on the TSN 690 morning show, the TSN insider said Carolina is the only club showing any steady pursuit of the Winnipeg goaltender.
Here is how Dreger framed it:
As of [Tuesday], the only offer that Winnipeg, I wouldn't even say is considered, but seems to be consistent, is likely coming out of Carolina.
That choice of words matters. Dreger stopped short of saying the Jets are seriously weighing a Hurricanes proposal.
His point was narrower. Across a league full of curiosity, Carolina is the one suitor whose interest has stayed steady rather than coming and going.
Why Carolina Keeps Coming Back
The Hurricanes have a clear reason to stay in the mix. They are the reigning Stanley Cup champions, and goaltending was widely viewed as their biggest question mark heading into this season.
Hellebuyck is a three-time Vezina Trophy winner and the 2024-25 Hart Trophy winner, so he would be a major upgrade if he finds that form again.
Frank Seravalli reported in June that Carolina's initial pitch included a first-round pick and defenseman Alexander Nikishin.
Elliotte Friedman added Monday on 32 Thoughts that the Hurricanes' interest is no secret, though he does not see an easy deal between the two clubs.
What It Means for Winnipeg
The Jets want this saga settled soon, yet they have shown they would rather keep waiting than accept a trade they view as poor.
Hellebuyck's $8.5 million cap hit runs through 2030-31, which shrinks the number of teams that can fit him, and his list of acceptable destinations shrinks it further.
Consistency is also not the same as quality. A steady offer does not automatically meet Winnipeg's price, and Dreger's wording leaves room for that reading.
For Carolina, being the lone steady voice could be an advantage. If other bidders stay quiet, the Hurricanes hold leverage on price. For the Jets, the question is whether one consistent suitor is enough to finally end the standoff.
