Devon Levi looked asleep in the crease during a goal review, and the Oilers goalie has won four of five games while Tristan Jarry trails him.
Devon Levi sat in his crease with his eyes closed during a goal review, and the hockey world couldn't stop laughing.
The Edmonton Oilers goalie looked like he was grabbing a quick nap while the officials worked things out.
The goal stood anyway.
The clip spread quickly online, mostly because he seemed so relaxed.
That calm is showing up in the results too.
Levi has won four of his five games this season, giving Edmonton steady goaltending behind a lineup that scores in bunches.
The 24-year-old carries just an $812,500 cap hit, which makes every one of those wins look even better for a team trying to contend.
Edmonton picked him up from Buffalo this offseason for a 2028 third-round pick, a low-cost move that is paying off early.
Tristan Jarry is losing ground in the crease
Jarry has a .873 save percentage through three games, while Levi sits at .898.
Jarry also counts $5,375,000 against the cap, which is a lot of money for a goalie now chasing a cheaper teammate.
Mike Babcock still makes the call, but the numbers are making a loud argument.
Any goalie would breathe easier with that kind of support.
What comes next for Levi
Carolina visits Thursday, and Toronto comes to town Saturday.
Those two games will show whether Levi can stay this loose against heavier traffic.
General manager Stan Bowman built this roster to contend, and the crease will decide how far it goes.
If Levi keeps stacking wins, nobody will care that he naps during reviews.
Jarry, meanwhile, now has a very real reason to stay wide awake.
